This week we spotlight Britt Anderson a Savannah, Georgia photographer. Thanks, Britt, for taking the time to let us get to know you a little bit better!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Well, I have been married to my very supportive husband Brian for almost 7 years now, and we have a gorgeous 4 year old daughter Annika. I grew up in the Chicago area, but my husband’s job brought us to Savannah, GA last year and I couldn’t be more happy with where I am (well, except for missing our family). Seriously, if you haven’t been to Savannah to experience the beautiful scenery, architecture, history, you are really missing out!. I was a teacher for 12 years prior to our move, which I think has been very helpful when dealing with photographing little ones. There hasn’t been a kid yet who I wasn’t able to win over!
There is your standard bio information…now for my little quirks, I love caramel macchiatos, I start most of my sentences with well (I just went back and deleted most of them here ), my favorite color is green, I use …….. a lot when I type, I was married in a barn, and I have a file with the FBI (you will have to message me for that story).

How long have you been doing photography?
Like most who are in photography right now, I always loved it growing up (I remember being so excited when I got my Kodak Disc 4000!). When I had my daughter, I brought her to a chain studio and afterwards thought, I could do better than this! So that is when I took learning seriously.
Are you a self-taught photographer? If you are not a self-taught photographer how did you learn?
When I started learning, I found an online course meant for beginners, which gave me a great start. After that, I just started reading everything I could online, visiting forums, video tutorials, asking peers. The most important thing I did was practice, practice, practice. Being a technical person (yeah, total math geek here) I picked up that part of the learning quickly. It was translating my artistic vision onto my image that took the most practice. No amount of book reading can help with that!

Who is your biggest influence/inspiration?
Wow, this is a hard one…I mean, to choose one person who influenced me? one who inspired me? There have been so many along the way who have inspired me in some way….but if I could get really cliche for a moment, it would be my husband. He has been beyond supportive and inspires me every day to live my dream.
Do you specialize in a certain area of photography?
I don’t specialize in any one area…just when I think I love one area of portrait photography the most, I do another shoot that inspires me in another way. I seem to always love whatever I am shooting that day.

What equipment and software do you use?
I am a Nikon girl…and you want to know why? Cause a photographer I admired shot with a Nikon. Yes, I was one of those who thought, “Hey, if I shoot with the same camera as she does, I will get the same great images!”….how foolish I was . But luckily I chose a camera that really did fit me perfectly, and with every upgrade has been serving me well.
Do you have a studio or do you shoot on location?
I am all on location. There is nothing better than finding that great new spot, with a fantastic backdrop, incredible light. I do photograph newborns and the more intimate maternities in the clients home. But even in those cases, I like to use the backdrop of the rooms in the house to create a natural portrait.

What advice would you give someone who is interested in photography and wants to improve his or her photography skills?
Practice….and then some more practice….maybe read a book….and then practice some more….and maybe watch some video tutorials….and then, oh yeah, practice some more! Seriously, it takes hard work, time and patience, and even after all of that you will never feel like you are completely satisfied. There is a constant desire to do better. Don’t make that a negative thing, embrace it as a positive thing strive for! Enjoy the journey.
