This week our member spotlight is of Lora Swinson of Precious Poses Photography. I have known Lora for 2 years and I have to say it has been AMAZING to see her art and biz grow in that amount of time. (I can remember sending her a message wishing her luck on her first newborn session… which she rawked btw.) Love you and your work sweet LoraLee
) and thanks for sharing with us!! xoxoMaureen

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi! I’m Lora
I have two beautiful little boys, Cooper and Nash and have been married 6 years to my amazing husband, Clint. I come from a HUGE family of 14 kids, grew up all over the western half of the US, lover of coffee, Dexter, Dave Matthews Band, and anything Mac.
How long have you been doing photography?
I am going into my 10th year
I started with a darkroom class in High School and immediately fell in love. There is something so soothing and calming about being in the darkroom and pulling your prints through all the chemicals. One day I will have a darkroom set up in my basement!
As far as being in business? I’m in my 2nd year. When I moved back up to the Denver area in 2009 I was given an incredible opportunity to join forces with one of the best photographers in the area. Andrea Janke of Precious Poses Photography. She has been a huge mentor for me and I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity.

Are you a self-taught photographer? If you are not a self-taught photographer how did you learn?
Ummm….a little of both! My high school photography teacher was amazing and really spent one on one time with me helping me learn my camera. In college I spent a lot more time figuring out what I liked to shoot and getting more creative. A lot of trial and error in those few years![]()
Who is your biggest influence/inspiration?
My children! Photographer….Lisa Lucky hands down. She was one of the first blogs I’d stumbled upon when I went into biz.
Do you specialize in a certain area of photography?
Right now I’m shooting everything under the sun but eventually I’d like to shoot newborns and weddings only.
They’re so different from each other but are definitely my favorite subjects, but I think thats what I love about them.

What equipment and software do you use?
I just jumped ship from Nikon to Canon. I’m using a 5D MkII, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.8, a (brand new!) 70-200mm 2.8 IS USM, and a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8. My 50mm 1.4 is pretty much stuck to my camera at all times, but I’m loving the 70-200mm 2.8 IS USM.
I do all my proofing in Lightroom and editing in CS3.
Do you have a studio or do you shoot on location?
Both! We just opened up a 2200 sq. foot studio here in Denver and are loving it.
What advice would you give someone who is interested in photography and wants to improve his or her photography skills?
Figure out who you are as a photographer and definitely learn your camera! Know what you’re doing and the proper way to go about it
oh, and take your time
dont rush, it’ll come!
