ooh, this is a great tut! I did a favicon a while back for my site- http://www.creativeclicksphotography.com- but it was not so easy to make it all work as I searched all over Google!
One thing to note: if you want a round favicon, it is made the same way but MUST be saved as a .png!
Also, when shrinking to 16×16 px, make sure to select Bicubic Sharper (best for reduction) so that your favicon remains crisp and clear.
